I’m Martyn Kendrick, the founder of Labyrinth Keys.

Many many years ago I began studying the most ancient symbols of civilization. This study has taken me to most continents of the world, has shaped my artistic practice, informed my work as an educator, transformed my world view, and prepared me for working with the labyrinth. I taught creativity at McMaster University for ten years before migrating to corporations and communities.

During my years as a journalist and author I wrote seven books, the last of which speaks to the transformative powers of creativity and storytelling. I am also a sculptor focusing on aspects of the Goddess across cultures and time. It was while working in India on a sculpture commission that I began to investigate the hidden meaning of the labyrinth as understood in tantric practice. It was synchronicity that led me to the labyrinth. What happened to me and others walking its path has kept me coming back again and again.

I have been privileged to witness profoundly transformative moments in the lives of individuals walking into the labyrinth who are faced with all sorts of challenges in the personal, interpersonal, and transpersonal dimensions of their daily lives. Their experience with the labyrinth helped them to imagine new futures and find the courage within themselves to move forward. It has motivated me to find ways to bring the principles of the labyrinth into the everyday lives of individuals in all kinds of situations.

Since the dawn of time people have described certain places as being holy or magical, as having a concentrated power or presence of spirit. Ancient legends, historical records and contemporary reports tell of extraordinary, even miraculous happenings at these places - the sick are healed, deities appear, artists receive inspiration, prophets see visions and sages attain spiritual enlightenment. In almost all cases, labyrinths are found at these sites. Why? Because labyrinths were designed to induce altered states of consciousness which leaves us receptive to intuition and mystical experience. It prepares us for an encounter of the numinous aspects of our existence. At Labyrinthkeys we specialise in exploring the benefits of working in a gently altered state.

As members of the International Labyrinth Society we support all those who create, maintain and use labyrinths, and serve the global community by providing education, networking and opportunities to experience transformation.

Our mission at Labyrinthkeys is to introduce the labyrinth pilgrimage journey to as many as possible. To this end, we have been stewarding a labyrinth experience that explores the origins of this ancient symbol and its latent powers. During our workshops and retreats we show participants how to design sacred space sanctuaries. By unlocking the code of the ancients embedded into the labyrinth, nearly all participants experience a deep integration of the senses and the spirit on their walk to the centre. Most report feelings of deep relaxation, healings, heightened awareness, being present in the moment. Our experience, based on facilitating hundreds of travellers along the path, persuades us that the labyrinth walk appeals to and nurtures the intuitive heart.
